Dental pulp is the soft part of the tooth, equipped with blood vessels and nerves. The hard dental tissues – enamel, dentin and dental cement, are its natural protection from external factors.

Damage to these tissues can lead to infection of the pulp (nerve), the main reasons for which are: deep caries, trauma or fracture of the tooth or failed previous dental interventions.

Not treating the inflammation can lead to tooth loss, so when a problem is diagnosed by X-Ray or/and the tooth is symptomatic with pain, a root canal treatment must be done.

Our patient was diagnosed with acute purulent periodontitis of a canine tooth with 2 roots and 2 canals and we had to perform the following endodontic treatment:
1. We isolated the work area with a rubber dam;
2. We treated the tooth with manual K-files and ProTaper NEXT clinical protocol;
3. We washed the root canals with Chloraxide Extra 5.25%, citric acid and isopropyl alcohol;
4. We filled the root canals with a hot vertical condensation technique;

The result: successful endodontic treatment and preservation of one of the most important teeth in the patient’s dentition.
